Cities and villages to visit
The villa is at equal distance of two beautiful historical cities, Chania and Rethymnon. The region consists of thirty two authentic villages with traditional cafe’s and taverna’s, to mention the main village Vamos, Kefala, Douliana, Xirosterni, Litsarda and Gavalochori are unmissable. A bit further the waterfalls of Argiroupoli and the Lake of Gournas are perfect places to visit for a nice relaxed day.
Crete is the cradle of the oldest civilization in Europe and of great cultural wealth. The Island is a meeting point of Eastern civilization and Western civilization. Its geographical position on the open sea between the three continents is of such importance that its history is fascinating. There are five millennia of remains: from the Minoan, Mycenaean, Hellenic, Roman, Byzantine and Cretan Renaissance eras, all have left their traces. There are museums, archeological sites, churches and monasteries of great interest to visit.
Chania
The old town of Chania with venetian port, monuments from the Ottoman period and its beautiful narrow alleys to wander around in.
Rethymnon
Rethymnon is a lively university town with enchanting harbor with lovely terraces, narrow alleys in the old Venetian town with shops of local crafts, cafes and bars.
The villages
There are many authentic villages with cafes, tavernas, old olive mills, museums, byzantin churches with astonishing frescoes and even some great wine and olive tasting tours.
Kournas
Kournas is a traditional village situated above the only natural lake of the island where you can swim, water pedal and with good fish restaurants.
